Rev. Dr. Anthony Sharp, I

Dr. Anthony E. Sharp, I, graduated in 1979 with a B.A. in Religion from Bishop College of Dallas, with a special emphasis on Christian Education and Philosophy. In 1984, he received his Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School of Texas Christian University.


Dr. Sharp organized the Tabernacle of Praise Missionary Baptist Church on November 13, 1994, with over 400 members. He is an original member of the Bishop 5 (Revival for Paul Quinn College that raised over two million dollars). Dr. Sharp served as the Advisor to the National President of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America from 2006-2012. He served as Vice-President of Auxiliaries for the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America for six years. He served as Moderator of the Fellowship District Association for 12 years. Within the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas, he served as the 2002-2003 Vice President of the Congress of Christian Workers and currently serves as the 3rd Vice President of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is a member of the Curriculum Committee for the Congress of Christian Workers and served for several years as the Pastoral Advisor to the State Drill Teams, Mime, and Praise Dance Ministries. He served faithfully as an instructor for the Deacon's Ministry in the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America's National Sunday School and BTU Congress for 27 years. Dr. Sharp has also conducted numerous workshops and seminars across the city, state, and nation relative to church growth and the Deacon Ministry. He currently serves as the President of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America.


On February 27, 1998, Dr. Sharp was chosen as the "Pastor of the Year," and Tabernacle of Praise was also chosen as the "Church of the Year" by the Elite News. In August 2003, Dr. Sharp was inducted into the Elite News Religious Hall of Fame. On May 2, 2009, Dr. Sharp was presented with an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Paul Quinn College. These prestigious awards could only be obtained through remarkable leadership touched by the hand of God.


Pastor Sharp is the devoted husband of Mrs. Janice Wilson Sharp (married February 28, 1981), and the father of Anthony E. Sharp II.
